Are you a steward of Alberta's natural resources, an agency or organization that works with stewardship groups, or a citizen interested in discovering Alberta's vibrant environmental stewardship community? You will be happy to know that through a successful partnership effort, the Directory of Watershed Stewardship 2005, an important resource for all types and sectors of stewardship, is now available on-line!
The directory contains contact information and activity profiles for stewardship groups involved in air, land, water, or biodiversity stewardship in Alberta's watersheds - it includes over 125 local stewardship groups, 10 Aboriginal stewardship groups, 42 non-government organizations, 96 government departments or agencies, and 13 industry groups!
Alberta Environment (www.gov.ab.ca/env), the Alberta Stewardship Network, and the Land Stewardship Centre of Canada (http://www.landstewardship.org/) contributed to the development of this terrific resource. Voluntary Stewardship Initiatives in Alberta
While putting the Directory of Watershed Stewardship in Alberta together, we summarized the responses received from voluntary stewardship groups to produce this report. Included is a summary of group activities from groups that were primarily volunteer-based and engaged in "on-the-ground" stewardship work. Relatively new groups reported their objectives and activities planned for the near future. Activities by agencies and organizations that primarily serve in a supportive role were not included in this summary. The categories listed here are those that were most frequently identified by stewardship groups. Section B, "Stewardship Partners," indicates the numerous governmental and non-governmental organizations that stewardship groups identified as partners in some capacity.
